Miranet - Overview
Founded in 1993, Miranet Inc., San Jose, CA, is a privately held, well-established firm that has been designing, implementing, and maintaining web sites for over nine years. For the last 4 years, we have been consistently ranked as one of the largest web site firms in Silicon Valley.
Among our clients are companies as diverse as Alcatel, SATO-America, San Jose State University, and Celeritek. In addition to serving clients in northern California, Miranet provides website design and custom web-based software services to companies throughout the country.
The Web Services Market
Today, a number of terms are used to describe the phenomenon of a business being able to perform its work on a website. Terms such as e-business, portals, supply change management, CRM, e-commerce, and web services are all expressions for running your business from a website. According to Business Week, IBM is spending over $800 million simply to promote their vision of e-business, which they call “on-demand computing.” But it’s no wonder IBM can justify such an expense when, according to IDC and Dataquest, demand for web services will go from $3 billion in 2003 to over $12 billion in 2006.
Companies like JetBlue have used technology to their advantage by implementing voice-over IP, which allows a corporate network to handle phone volume as well as data. That, in turn, allows call center employees to work from home. Not only does this save money on office space, but it also results in happier employees. As a result of this change, JetBlue’s call center attrition fell from the industry norm of 30% to 5%, which resulted in huge savings in employee training. Walmart has embarked on an aggressive supply chain management project using radio frequency identification, called RFID, which is expected to reduce theft, reduce inventory levels, and improve customer service with restocking just in time.
Businesses continue to provide “self-service” portals for customers to place e-commerce orders, track shipments, and even pay bills on the vendor’s website. Wireless networks promise to make conducting business anywhere, and at any time, a reality that will further empower field personnel in sales, service, and support. One of our clients, SATO-America, has deployed a worldwide parts lookup and product troubleshooting guide on its website. This system allows a technician in the field to troubleshoot a barcode printer, look up the replacement part, and order it directly from the company’s website. Another client, a national pet food franchise company, has completely automated its business on the Internet, so now when consumers express an interest in the pet food products, their information is integrated into a web-based CRM system. Consumers can also place orders and re-orders directly on the website. These orders are then combined with other orders from a franchisee’s location and sent on to the main corporate accounting system, where they enter the Supply Chain Management System. Franchisees can also administer their own websites through the website content management system. All these services are provided by web-based applications that are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Miranet's Approach to the Market
Miranet believes that e-business success requires companies to deal with both technical and business challenges simultaneously. Full integration is the only long-term solution.
That’s why we provide integrated, high-level strategic marketing and technical e-business solutions in conjunction with hands-on, creative graphics design capabilities. The Miranet synthesis is the perfect fit for small- to medium-sized clients who would not have the budget or the internal bandwidth to deal with a large, high-priced consulting firm, but require more integrated and strategic e-business support than is customarily provided by a local graphics design shop.
Miranet relieves clients of the necessity of having to stay on top of the various and competing technologies in the web services marketplace. Providing the right balance of technology and business common sense, we interpret and support a client's business (whatever it may be) in whatever form of web services is most appropriate from a Website to back end business process integration.
We also understand and recognize that optimizing business processes is not a single event, but a continual process. Miranet can help establish and implement process-centered e-business management that assesses a client's needs and translates that knowledge into practical and cost-effective solutions on an ongoing basis. We know how to painlessly provide even small clients with a high level e-business strategy in a user-friendly, non-intimidating fashion.
