DOVEBID
TEST AND MEASUREMENT GROUP'S RFQ SYSTEM
The
Background:
Dovebid Test and Measurement Group
is a part of the Dovebid Auction company but they primarily
lease expensive test and measurement equipment rather
than sell it.
Like many companies, Dovebid, faces a situation where
they would like to able to conduct
E-Commerce with their customers, but the complexity of
their selling environment prohibits that due to different
pricing and availability structures for their clients.
Their customers are interested in getting several pieces
of test equipment at a time but the Dovebid website didn't
have a way of communicating their needs.
The
Problem: Potential
Dovebid customers would find the test and measurement
equipment they needed but have no organized way of communicating
those needs to Dovebid so they could provide a quote.
The Solution:
Our analysts studied the problem
and realized that Dovebid's requirements matched those
of an e-commerce system but without the actual exchange
of money. We designed a searchable data base containing
the current inventory of test and measurement equipment.
We integrated the database with the Dovebid inventory
applications to provide up-to-the-minute information on
the website. The prospective Dovebid customer searches
for items they need by:
- By
model number
- Instrument
categories
- Manufacturer
of each category
- Models
available in each category and by manufacturer
Once
they find an item of interest, they click on the Model
Number to get detailed information and the ability to
click on "Add to Quote", which adds the item
to the RFQ Request. Once all items have been selected,
the prospective customer completes the RFQ Request with
Contact, shipping, and billing information.
The system send out email acknowledgements to both the
prospect and Dovebid with details regarding the RFQ.
An
administrative back office provides for inventory updates,
adding new arrivals, coding items as Specials and changing
the data base information.
The
Payoff:
Customer service has improved
enormously for prospective customers visiting the website
and Dovebid sales personnel get more complete information
about their customers' and prospective customers' needs.
All for a modest one-time development fee.
