Save Time and Money With a Parts Lookup System

The Background: Our client spent lots of money maintaining a Customer Service staff to identify parts for machines needing repair. Since they weren't technicians themselves, the work was tedious and error-prone.

The Problem: Giving on-site technicians the ability to lookup part numbers and to order the appropriate items faster and more accurately than the present manual by phone method.

The Solution: Our analysts studied the problem and created a multi-step web-based process.

The Process: The user is first presented with a simple login and password request that will authenticate them as Certified Technicians and provide access to the Parts Lookup system.

The initial screen for the Parts Lookup provides the user the option of typing in the part number directly or searching for the part in the various schematics.

After selecting the appropriate unit drawing, the user is presented with the schematic and a reference number for each part.

Place the cursor on the reference number and click to get the Parts Lookup Results screen comes up with the actual part number, description and that technician's price.

Now the technician can press the "Buy Button" to put that part into a shopping cart and continue to look up other part numbers or go to the checkout function.

The order information is confirmed and the order placed directly into the company accounting system.

The Payoff: Customer service costs are reduced and technicians get better service by being able to access the parts information and order the proper items automatically at a comparatively modest one-time development cost.

While it's true that this client is a high tech company, the technique applies equally well to automotive companies, distributors, and machinery manufacturers. Anyone who uses manuals with sub-assembly drawings to look up part numbers can take advantage of this system.
