Kakadu Art & Design's gorgeous gallery in Jerusalem has long been a must stop and shop destination for thousands of American tourists. But violence in the Middle East has driven the tourists away, so Kakadu is reinventing itself to survive. (www.kakadu-design.com)

Downsized Israeli stores and more overseas galleries help. But when Kakadu needed a way to reach its large disbursed number of American clientele, they turned to Silicon Valley-based Miranet Web Services to create a website as rich and diverse as one of its galleries.

The e-commerce program is a custom written program tailored to the specific needs of Kakadu Designs and is fully upgradeable as their future needs change. It is a relational data base driven program, using MS SQL as the backend database on a Windows 2000 server and features:

• Customer Identification and personalization through a login. This allows Kakadu to provide specialized pricing and special offers targeted to the individual.
  
• The Product Catalog is organized so a shopper can view products by not only type of product but also but the style or motif design. The product catalog also shows associated items which facilitates cross-selling and up-selling opportunities to the customer.
  
• The Shopping Cart all the functionality expected in a modern e-commerce design - including, secure server checkout, computation of all product costs, inventory management, freight calculations and credit card processing.
  
• The Affiliate program module pays other sites commissions for promoting the Kakadu products. products. Great for Fundraisers, vendor partners or hobbyists wishing to make some extra income.
  
• The Administration Back Office provides a wide range of product catalog management, order reporting and order tracking capabilities.
  
• The Gift Registry module allows viewers to register and pre-select a list of items for others to purchase.
  
• The Email Marketing Module allows Kakadu to email all subscribers and other opt-in visitors, and includes utilities to allow them to opt in or out as they wish. The Email module has the capability to search the database for changes, identify subscribers who have an interest in a particular topic and to send an email periodically to those subscribers. This way the data base will keep subscribers up to date interactively without increasing labor costs.
